Jesus, Our Cornerstone

The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; —Psalm 118:22

What is a cornerstone?

The foundation of any structure is crucial to its stability and longevity. In ancient times, builders would take great care in choosing the cornerstone - the first stone to be laid in a new construction. Many stones were rejected until the perfect one was found; one that was strong enough to support the weight of the entire building and keep it aligned.

What does “Jesus, the Cornerstone” mean?

As Christians, we believe that Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith. God has placed him perfect. He is the foundation upon which we build our lives and our beliefs. He supports and sustains us. He is strong and reliable, He bears our burdens, and with Him, we can withstand any storm. Without Him, our faith would crumble. —Jesus, Our Cornerstone.

Why was Jesus, the stone rejected?

The builders (spiritual leaders of that time) rejected Jesus because he didn't fit into their idea of who the perfect Messiah should be. They expected the Messiah to be powerful, majestic and kingly in nature like a lion who would condemn the world and destroy sin.

Therefore, it was not difficult for the religious leaders to quickly reject Jesus as the Messiah with his humble origins, mistaking his lamb-like nature as weakness, not strength.

They did not recognize God’s plan was to send Jesus a pure and innocent lamb to be persecuted and sacrificed.

'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.' ~John 3:16-17

Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'~John 1:29.

Even though he was viewed as imperfect and was rejected by many people during his lifetime, Jesus is exalted as the chief cornerstone of our Faith. —Jesus, Our Cornerstone.

What does the cornerstone mean for us?

Jesus is the firm foundation of our lives. He is our Rock, our Salvation, and our Hope. He is the standard by which we measure our lives, and the guide to how we should live.

Without Jesus as a Cornerstone, our lives would be disorderly and weak, precarious.

Just as the cornerstone strengthens the structure of a building, so Jesus strengthens us and enables us to live a straight and stable life. We can fully rely on Him—Jesus, Our Cornerstone.

We pray you will find reassurance and Hope in our Cornerstone Collection because Jesus was that rejected cornerstone, and He can work through our imperfections, transforming weakness into strength—Jesus, Our Cornerstone.
