2020...

During the 24 Day Luke Challenge in December, I found myself wondering about all the 40-day transformations that occur throughout the bible, —i.e, The rain for the The Great Flood was 40 days, Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days, Jonah warned the City of Nineveh they had 40 days to repent and save the city or God would overthrow it, Jesus was in Wilderness for 40 days.

Out of curiosity, I explored how many 40 day periods there would be in 2020.  I was delighted to discover starting today, Jan 1, 2020—there are nine (9) 40-day periods in 2020, and the 9th 40-day period ends on Christmas Day 2020.

The idea of 9 intentional opportunities to transform aspects of my life/character in a year excited me.  There are areas I really had been feeling a nudge to improve.  Then, I also thought how there are 9 Fruits of the Spirit, and I could devote each 40-day period to fostering those. I started to tie myself into knots trying to figure it out. Ultimately, I decided I wouldn't plan out the whole year in advance, but I would offer up each of those 40 days to God and ask him for guidance of how to use those periods to shape me, and my life to His Will.

In all my knot tying, I created a simple 2020 calendar that divides the year by each 40 day period. I thought I'd share it in case it would be inspiring for you. Link below.

But the Truth is, you can start a 40-day period at any time during the year, and if you've never devoted 40 days to something, maybe 2020 would be a good year to try it—choosing to read scriptures for 40 days in a row or praying for someone for 40 days are great places to start.

May 2020 be a year of light for you. May it fill you completely, light your path and shine bright enough to be light for others who may be lost in the shadows.
